Going down the toothpaste aisle in your local grocery store can be a bit overwhelming. With all of the different brands, you may think that there are a lot of differences between different types of toothpaste. The dentist in this video explains this is not the case and toothpaste is largely the same, no matter the brand.
That’s right, most toothpaste is made from the same ingredients and produces the same cleanly effects. It’s not important to pay attention to what it says on the label as long as it has fluoride in it. Anything else is likely a marketing ploy.
There are some things you should look for. Take a look at the drug facts on the box for the toothpaste. Make sure there’s fluoride, and see what type it is. Sodium fluoride and sodium monofluorophosphate are pretty much the same. Stannous fluoride has some extra benefits, so if you want a bit of an extra punch in your toothpaste, look for this ingredient.
Be wary of whitening toothpaste. There aren’t ingredients in the whitening toothpaste that actually whitens your teeth. They are just more abrasive and can scrub off stains. They do nothing for the base shade. For more information, check out the video above.
