Modern health care takes a wide variety of forms, and nearly every condition or injury has a cure or treatment available, from invasive surgery to pills to chemotherapy to X-rays, and in particular, cancer treatment and weight loss are two medical procedures that a modern patient can get from a cancer specialist (for the former) or a center for weight loss surgery options (for the latter). A cancer specialist will know how to diagnose and figure out treatment for cancer ranging from a breast exam to prostate or lung cancer, and an obese adult patient may opt for weight loss surgery as an alternative to a regular health loss regimen (although that may still be possible).
Treating Cancer
Cancer stands as one of the most dangerous and challenging medical conditions, but American health care has worked hard to catch up and find ways to fight it, ranging from chemotherapy to surgery to proton radiation machinery. Much work has been done to study trends and patterns of cancer development in terms of demographics, fatality rates, where the cancer develops, and more, and this data can help doctors and any cancer specialist to figure out newer and better ways to diagnose cancer early and get effective treatment done. Rare cancer can still happen, and more often than someone might expect. Experts predicted that in 2017, for example, 13% of all cancers that would be diagnosed in adults aged 20 and over would be rare types. By contrast, the most common cancer type among Americans is breast cancer, which is expected to develop in 268,670 cases in 2018. It is mainly women who suffer breast cancer, although in rare cases, it has been known to appear in men as well. As a whole, estimates show that in 2018, there may be 1,735,350 new cases of cancer that would be diagnosed in the United States.
A patient may consult a cancer specialist to get diagnoses or treatment options for their condition, and in women, getting regular mammograms can go a long way to finding cancer or other problems early. Men can get their prostate glands checked every year to find any problems with it, up to and including cancer, and smokers should be aware that mouth, lung, and throat cancer is much more likely to happen to them. If diagnosed early, tumors and growths can be handled by a cancer specialist, and surgery, radiation such as X-rays, or chemotherapy treatment can be undertaken. Proton beam therapy is a low-risk, specialized new form of cancer treatment that one may consider.
Obesity
In the modern United States, it is commonly accepted that obesity has become an epidemic, and doctors define obesity as when a person weighs 20% or more over their healthy weight, and even adolescents and children are facing rising rates of obesity. What causes it? Often, sedentary lifestyles, such as 9-5 office jobs or children playing computer games or using smart phones for hours each day mean that many adults and children are not getting their recommended amount of physical activity per day or per week. This, when combined with consuming vast amounts of fatty and sugary processed foods and fast foods, contribute to rising obesity rates.
Obese adults, especially those whose health do not allow them to undertake regular exercise regimens, may opt to try weight loss surgery, although consulting one’s personal physician first is important to make sure no complications arise. At a weight loss medical center, surgery may remove body fat using various methods, and the patient will soon see results. Meanwhile, if an overweight or obese adult is able to exercise, all sorts of activities are possible, such as bicycle riding, swimming, jogging, sports like soccer or basketball, weight lifting, and even training in martial arts. In the latter case, martial arts work out all muscle groups and are fun and can promote self-defense. A diet of healthy, organic foods should be consumed as well, such as fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and protein like eggs, fish, and nuts, and fast food and processed foods should be avoided entirely. This cuts way down on caloric intake and can promote weight loss, and will improve the person’s nutrition all the while. One should consult a doctor before starting a demanding training program or diet.
