From Multivitamins To Hormonal Support The Benefits Of Supplements

Supplements for digestion

As we get older, we need a little boost here and there — then again, most of us likely need boosts of some kind far before we get older. Whether you need a supplement here and there due to the natural aging process or due to a condition of some kind, it’s quite likely that at some point you will need a health supplement of some kind. Of course, many of us need them — but don’t know that we need them in the first place. This is in part because while we know enough to keep up with our vaccines, we often aren’t kept aware of our needs for hormonal support supplements, digestive health supplements, and more. The fact is that while you may not be dying without such supplements, you’re not as healthy as you could be. Even if you’re simply suffering from the side effects of the natural aging process, you could likely benefit from a supplement here and there, even if it simply exists to make you feel younger or lessen the effects of processes like menopause. Yet not all supplements were created equal — and not all serve the same purpose. While many of us are aware of supplements that aid in menopause support, for example, we may not be aware of the benefits other types of supplements have to offer. Let’s look into them below.

Hormonal Support Supplements: A Broad Category

Hormonal support serves many different purposes, depending on the type of hormonal support supplement you’re taking and for what reason. Many people suffer from hormonal imbalances, for a number of reasons. One of the main reasons why women in particular take hormone supplements, of course, is menopause. Menopause causes women to undergo a dramatic hormonal change in a relatively short amount of time. They may experience sexual dysfunction, vaginal dryness, hot flashes, and even bouts with depression and anxiety. Hormone supplements can help balance out these problems — and make women feel more like themselves. While menopause itself cannot be stopped, its symptoms certainly can. Of course, menopause is far from the only condition that can be helped through hormone supplements. Far before they go through menopause, some young women suffer from polycystic ovarian syndrome. This syndrome can cause women to have painful and irregular periods, gaining excess weight and even experiencing an excess in body hair. This condition, like menopause, can be potentially helped through hormone supplements. Some men can also benefit from hormone supplements, especially when they have issues with low testosterone.

Metabolic Health Products: Boosting Your Metabolism

Your metabolism controls much of the way you feel throughout the day. It affects whether or not you can exercise as you would like to, and at the same time can affect how you’re able to control your weight — or not, for that matter. Some suffer from naturally slow metabolisms, and find that the best way to control them — whether by balancing them out or simply speeding them up — is through supplements. It’s believed that your base metabolic rate, or BMR, accounts for about 70% of your total energy expenditure. Your metabolism will, like the hormones associated with issues like menopause, change as you age. It could also be affected by other conditions. With the metabolic activity of muscle accounting for an estimated 25% of total energy expenditure, and fat accounting for 5%, people need to keep in mind their metabolism, and boost it when necessary. Supplements are natural ways of doing so.

Multivitamins: The All-Purpose Approach

Multivitamins are known for strengthening people’s health, and cover a large number of purposes and effects. Although they seem new, multivitamins have been used since the 1940s. They remain popular, with one-third of Americans taking multivitamins. Even now, they account for one-sixth of all dietary supplements, and a total of 40% of all vitamin and mineral supplements. Even if you don’t have any particular health problems, taking a daily multivitamin can strengthen your health and immune system.
